Neil Hoolahan

Partner Grant Thornton

Neil is a Partner in Grant Thornton's Channel Islands tax team and specialises in offshore trust and company tax advisory and compliance services.

At present, Neil is advising clients on the implications of the proposed changes to the taxation of non-domiciliary and what impact these changes will have on trust structures in the Channel Islands.  Neil also leads Grant Thornton's tax information exchange service line and has a deep understanding of the US FATCA and OECD Common Reporting Standards and is the Channel Island lead on Grant Thornton’s global asset management tax working party.  Neil regularly advises on the creation and on-going management of fund structures in particular the use of Guernsey Private Investment Funds and how these can be used by UHNW families to assist with the transfer of family wealth to future generations.

Neil has been listed as one of the City wealth's Top 50 Global Tax Professionals of 2025 having been name in the Top 100 tax advisors in 2023 and was named City wealth's Future Leaders Accountant of the Year in 2018.

Aaron has a wealth of industry expertise through a 30-year career in finance and banking. He has previously held the role of Standard Chartered Bank’s Global Head of Debt Capital Markets and, since retiring from this position in 2015, has worked extensively as a Non-Executive Director (NED). Notably he was an NED at Amana Bank PLC – a leading Islamic Bank – where he also chaired the Board Integrated Risk Committee.

Matt Sanders is the Managing Partner of our Guernsey office and a leading practitioner in investment funds and corporate law, with 18 years of offshore experience. 

He specialises in the structuring, establishment, and restructuring of investment funds, including Guernsey Private Fund structures, as well as high-value transactions involving Guernsey company law. His expertise extends to mergers and acquisitions, particularly those involving regulated corporate service providers and trust companies.  

Matt works closely with Walkers’ investment funds and corporate teams across jurisdictions, to provide seamless cross-border advice.

James M Smith

Vice President Northern Trust

James is a Vice President at Northern Trust in Guernsey, a leading Fund Services company focusing on Traditional, Hedge, Private Equity, Real Estate and Infrastructure clients. James is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

As a Senior Relationship Manager, he responsible for the developing and maintaining the strategic relationships of the Guernsey bank and fund administration company.

James was previously in the role of Head of Client Onboarding for all Channel Islands based Funds Services business for 9 years and in that time successfully completed over 300 client events including launches, transitions, domiciliations, restructures and mergers across the full range of asset classes and legal structures. This has ranged from managing the launch of a brand new Private Equity fund in under 3 weeks, to a multi-year project of the largest real estate transition in the company’s history.
